This sacrament is a sign and experience of God’s unconditional love and forgiveness. As Catholic Christians we are called to be one people united with Christ and with one another. Sadly, in our weakness, this unity is often ruptured through failures to love (we sin). Yet, God’s love for us does not cease when we fail to love. By expressing our sorrow for our sin in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we experience forgiveness and healing. Our relationship with God and our unity as Church is made whole again.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered as a one to one interaction with the priest, in a “private confession”. Confession times for Holy Trinity are Tuesday and Thursday 6:30 – 6:45pm at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Wednesday at 8:30-8:45am at St. John Vianney Church, Saturday at 3:45-4:15pm at St. John Vianney Church or by appointment at any of our 3 churches. Celebration of First Reconciliation for Children
Jesus loved little children, the most helpless members of our society.
” Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”
The primary way that Jesus continues to welcome children today is through the Sacraments. In Baptism, they are freed from original sin and become sons and daughters of God in a new way. At the age of discretion, usually 7-8 years of age, they are prepared to receive the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in Holy Communion. Before Holy Communion, following the requirements of the Church, they are prepared to receive Jesus’ forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Preparation for this Sacrament, as for all children’s formation, is a family affair. Parents and children are to complete one full year of IGNITE Family Program prior to applying to be part of the Sacramental Program. Preparation for First Reconciliation will begin in October 2016and will be 3 sessions on Sunday mornings. Families must continue to participate in the IGNITE program during this preparation process.
